FAQ

Find answers to some of the most common questions about acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and visiting our clinic.

What happens at my first consultation?

At your first consultation, we will discuss your health concerns, medical history and general wellbeing. A Traditional Chinese Medicine assessment may include observing the tongue and checking the pulse. We will then discuss a personalised approach based on your individual needs.

How long does an acupuncture session take?

A typical acupuncture session lasts around 50 minutes. The first consultation may take a little longer, as we take time to discuss your health concerns and carry out a Traditional Chinese Medicine assessment.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very fine. Most people experience little or no discomfort during treatment, although you may sometimes feel a mild tingling, heaviness or dull sensation around the needle.

How many acupuncture sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies from person to person and depends on your individual circumstances. After your consultation, we can discuss an appropriate treatment plan with you.

What should I wear for acupuncture?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing where possible. Depending on the area being treated, you may be asked to adjust or remove some clothing, and your privacy will always be respected.

Is acupuncture suitable for everyone?

Acupuncture is suitable for many people, but it may not be appropriate in every situation. Please tell us about any medical conditions, pregnancy, medications or other health concerns during your consultation so we can advise you appropriately.

What is Chinese herbal medicine?

Chinese herbal medicine is a traditional system that uses combinations of herbs selected according to an individual Traditional Chinese Medicine assessment. We will discuss whether it is suitable for you and explain how to take any herbal formula provided.

Can I have acupuncture while taking medication?

In many cases, people can receive acupuncture while taking prescribed medication. Please tell us about all medicines and supplements you are taking. Do not stop or change prescribed medication without speaking to the healthcare professional who prescribed it.

How do I book an appointment?

You can contact Chinese Doctor Clinic on 01492 877416 or 07796196960, or email masterxie@hotmail.com to arrange an appointment.
